Forest Lodge Electrical FAQs
Do you work on older and heritage homes in Forest Lodge?
Yes. Forest Lodge has a strong collection of Victorian terraces, cottages and other late-19th and early-20th-century housing, so older properties are nothing unusual for us.
We take into account the age of the installation, previous renovations, access behind walls and ceilings, and the condition of the existing switchboard and wiring before deciding the best way to complete the job.
Does an old ceramic fuse box need to be replaced?
Not every old-looking switchboard is identical, so we prefer to inspect it first. Ceramic rewireable fuses, missing or limited RCD protection, lack of capacity and ageing components can all be reasons an upgrade is worth considering.
NSW Government recommends having safety-switch protection checked in older homes and notes that some older properties only have one safety switch protecting multiple circuits.
Can an old switchboard panel contain asbestos?
It can. The current NSW Service and Installation Rules specifically warn that asbestos was historically used in some electrical switchboard panels and that suspect panels should not be drilled or disturbed without appropriate precautions.
If we’re dealing with an older board, we assess what we’re working with rather than drilling into an unknown panel and hoping for the best.
How many smoke alarms does a two-storey Forest Lodge terrace need?
NSW rules require smoke alarms on every storey of a residential property. On a level containing bedrooms, their position also needs to relate correctly to the sleeping areas.
So if your terrace has a ground floor, first-floor bedrooms and a converted attic or additional level, the layout needs to be considered across the whole home rather than just the bedroom hallway.
Can you add circuits for air conditioning, induction cooking or an EV charger?
Yes. Before adding another high-demand appliance, we check the existing switchboard and available capacity. Depending on the installation, the job may require a dedicated circuit, switchboard work or a broader supply upgrade rather than simply connecting another appliance to what’s already there.
Do you work in Forest Lodge apartment buildings?
Yes. Apartment work can involve more than what’s inside the unit, especially when electrical rooms, common property or building access are involved. We can carry out electrical work within apartments and advise you if strata or building management needs to be involved before a particular job proceeds.
